Re: [SIGCHI] iPod ideas

I've taken a brief look at the iPod and how it stores the files. It is non trivial to edit that file as they have some kind of hash at the end of each entry to make sure it is valid or something else stupid that I'm missing. I'll look into more tonight and report back. Either way, it we don't get a nice xml file to edit.

I'll post a transcript of the panel project sometime today.

1) A guided tour/rating system. For say, museums: people can take an iPod upon entering a museum. And each track is about an individual piece, and people can walk through and skip the ones they don't like. Then at the end of the day, the playcounts can be tabulated and a "popularity" score can be derived.

2) Quiz/test, also in a museum setting (or maybe lab stations?). Each student takes an iPod, and goes to an exhibit or station, and the iPod will ask a multiple-choice question. Then the answer is just the rating the student gives it. When they're done, they sign into a certain computer, plug in the iPod, and the score is submitted from track ratings.
