SigUnix is busily planning our string of instructional workshops on all aspects of Unix. At the last few SigUnix meetings many excellent ideas have been suggested. We are now contacting local experts to help us ease the pain of using Unix operating system. Topics that have been suggested range from programming languages such as Python, Perl and Tk/Tcl to introduction to basic user and system Unix security.
Along with our workshop events, SigUnix is also formulating ideas for projects for1996 Engineering Open House (EOH). One project would involve writing a Motif based system administration tool that would help those new to administrating Unix machines. Tasks such as user creation and deleteion, device configuration, and basic security issues would be managed through an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
Whether you are interested in Unix programming, or simply trying to figure out how to use Unix, you should join SigUnix at our regular meeting on Wednesdays at 8pm; new faces are always welcome. at the room 1225 in Digital Computing Lab.
