We are all things Networking! Current projects include: Further Improving on our Java Chat System, VooDoo City Putting together a Network Sniffer Workshop, Campus Traffic Analysis, Digging up Detailed Bandwidth Pricing, Playing Around with Some Wireless Networking Equipment. We meet on Mondays at 7:30PM in 202 Transportation Building.

News:

Hey all you EOH readers! Check out our Java-based chat and gaming system, VooDoo City! There you can learn about Java network programming, while playing tic-tac-toe and other online games. There will be several VooDoo City Terminals available in DCL for you to sit at and chat with other EOH visitors and the SIGNET members who put together VooDoo City. Come on in and chat.

Just recently, we changed locations. We're now meeting in 202 Transportation Building, which is just southeast of DCL. It's a networking laboratory full of machines and routers and such. It's a Network Engineering playground, so come to the next SIGNET meeting to check it out.

This semester, we're hoping to get a good look at packets using a few commercial and freeware sniffer applications. If you're eager to get a headstart on CS338, playing with sniffers is a good start. They also show very clearly why you should dump telnet and start using ssh right now. We'll get a chance to play Big Brother.

In addition, with the CCSO Network Design Office's approval, we're looking to dig in to some of the campus traffic statistics. Can you guess how much of the campus traffic is generated in the dorms? Which department pushes the most bits? Hopefully we'll find out.

Much more is possible, and it all depends on the interests of our group. If you're interested in joining, and learning more about all things Networking, simply visit our website and e-mail signet@uiuc.edu, and we'll put you on our mailing list.
