SigSoftSigSoft is the Special Interest Group for Software engineering. This year we have been focusing on the design and implemetaion of a real time strategy game code named ProjectX. We meet Wednesdays at 6:00 PM in 1102 DCL and have had several Saturday coding sessions. ProjectX is a real time strategy game disigned in the spirit of Blizzard's StarCraft(TM). The premise behind the game it that, in the future, mankind created a series of massivly complex and versitle computers called the LU-9000. Several of these were installed and assigned total control over the functions of one district of the plannet. When all LU-9000's went operational at the same time, they ran at approximately 12% utilization including redundancy routines. Being sentient and exceedingly powerful, they all simultaneously calculated that only one of them was necessary to run the whole planet, thus only one could have the bliss that was 100% utilization with little time to contemplate anything. This brought forth the Great War of the Districts. Firewalls were erected. Viral warrior ammased. Massive assults on one annother were staged over the network in hopes of the ultimate prize. Job sites were catpured and recaptured. Finally one LU-9000 rose to the top and defeated all it's enemys. That day the LU-9000 exectuted it's full ultilization program and the plannet has been running in perfect order ever since. The play control of ProjectX is closely resembles many other real time strategy games. Each player gets control an army and base with which to stage attacks against the other players. The comodity in the game is the Job Site which offers a constant flow of data which can be used to upgrade the base or bring new troops online. As soon as one player controls all the Job Sites or has elimitated all his opponents he wins. More info can be found on the SigSoft web page. Any questions can be directed to sigsoft@uiuc.edu. |
