What is ACM? By Christopher Clausen
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is a student group consisting of a variety of people with various backgrounds who share a common interest in computers. ACM is open to all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Illinois in all fields. Within ACM, we have a variety of special interest groups (SIGs) that focus on specific areas of computing. From computer graphics to mobile computing we have groups that cover just about everything.
To join ACM, just stop by our office in 1225 DCL, fill out a small form, and pay a small membership fee. You can choose from one of the many currently active SIGs, resurrect one of the defunct ones, or begin your own. ACM is always looking for new people with a variety of interests and creative ideas.
The individual SIGs control their own projects and meeting times. SIGs are welcoming members regardless of skill or class level. For more details on each active SIG, please page through the rest of this newsletter.
