We are the Special Interest Group for Operating Systems. An operating system is that piece of software that manages system resources.  This generally includes management of peripherals, filesystem storage, memory, and the processor. We at SIGOps write operating systems.  This semester, Sid Cammeresi will be leading our Fall SIGOps tutorial. We will be covering the topics necessary to write a preemptive multitasking operating system on the x86 from scratch. In the Spring SIGOps generally undertakes various projects.
In the past, SIGOps has had showings at the Engineering Open House. We have demonstrated a virtual fish tank that is distributed across different operating systems, a laser guided turret, and a wireless electric mini-car.
As always, we welcome new members. In particular, I encourage you to join if you have new ideas or are willing to participate in current projects.

SIGBOT is back in full force this year with all it's old members ready for another year of hardcore botting. Our meeting time has changed for this year and is now Wednesdays at 7:00pm in L510 in DCL. We are looking for new members interested in learning about robotics and building something cool.

Right now is a very exciting time for SIGBOT as only by the end of last year we finally got our secondary project, the SIGBOT rover, finally working. We will demo it today at the open house. Now were looking for things to do with it as well as for brand new project ideas.  Also, as many will attest, our main project from last year (Caffeine) is well and alive in the ACM office and can be visited at caffeine.acm.uiuc.edu.  Have a great year, and hope to see you at the next SIGBOT meeting on Wednesday at 7:00.. all levels of knowledge welcome, come to learn!
