SIGNet is still continuing to teach the basics of Networking through the use of Perl, in the hopes of doing some real network programming in the near future.  We've also discussed various random network topics.  Want to learn more about networking?  Show up at our meetings.

On a side note, the Myrinet Clustering Project, a joint venture between SIGUnix and SIGNet to make eficient use of 4 Machines with 2.0 Gbps interconnects loaned to us by NCSA, is starting to take form.   This is done as a separate project, and we meet on Tuesday nights at the ACM office (1225 DCL) around 8p.

SIGArch is already hard at work on its newest Engineering Open House project. We're building a stage with lights and sensors to use as a platform for a game not unlike Konami's Dance Dance Revolution. Instead of using predetermined dance steps, however, we're using cutting-edge DSP technology to create dance steps on the fly.
Preliminary plans for the dance stage have been made, and we'll begin construction very soon. The hardware may require custom printed circuit
boards to be designed and fabricated for each module of the stage. We'll also need either Windows or Linux drivers written to interface with the stage, and an application to tie it all together.

As we all know, SIGGraph kicks ass.  The ass kicking that we have been doing of late has involved a HDR (High Dynamic Range) image editor, and a scene modeler.  The HDR image editor project has recently been expanded upon.  Our additional goal now is to capture streaming HDR environments and add synthetic objects into these environments in real-time.

SIGGraph has also been showing past Electronic Theathers and presenting tutorials/workshops in various aspects of graphics. So far we have presented tutorials on GLUT, RenderMan, and Maya. For the future we are looking at 3DS MAX and Lightwave 3D tutorials, just to name a few.

Hope everyone survived their midterms.. how does time fly. So SIGBot is now full steam ahead with the rebuilding of it's autonomous robot for Jerry Sanders. We're playing with various cool ideas as far as weapons systems.. lets just say chainsaws came up; a lot :). If you're interested in helping out with the fastest growing robotics club on campus, come join us Wednesdays at 7:00pm in L510 (DCL) downstairs.

There are many cool sub-projects in UI/control/AI/mechanics to go around, we're learning new things every week!
