The Special Interest Group for Operating Systems continues with our operating systems tutorial. In the last month, we have covered interprocess communication, context switching, virtual memory, and memory protection.

We will be wrapping up the tutorial and forge on ahead with our special project. Work has already begun to collectively implement an OS using the SigOps operating systems development tools.

Well, as long as we have two active members and everyone else is on and off, we have a SIG going. Plans for this year appear to be making Sounds & Visions at least 2 notches better than last year's and putting out a new SIGMusic CD. I definitely want to do both.  I just don't want to see the SIGMusic CD basically be the "EK and PK" CD. I also don't want to see S&V become SIGGraph plus the ENTIRE... BOTH... of SIGMusic members.  But that's the goings on, and something is better than nothing. We will indeed have something. SERIOUSLY!!! I'm NOT KIDDING!!!

SIGUnix has been working with SIGNet to create a workable Beowulf clustered arrangement that is eleet as possible.  Recently we managed to get MPICH up and running, so the cluster is actually functioning as a real cluster for the first time.  Myrinet support is forthcoming, as is something useful to do with the cluster...

In other news, we're looking to have an install-fest soon, so if you've been hesitating to install Linux (or some other such OS) on your machine, keep an eye out for an announcement of that.

SIGMobile is working on the details for their PDA Controlled Laser Tag Robots. Details are classified but look out for the EOH DEATHMATCH.

Anyone interested in working on the project show up at our meetings.
