From Top Four
One of the features we've been meaning to bring back to the Banks of the Boneyard for a good while now is the "From the Chair" update. Since that has been done before, we figured that "From Top Four" would be just as beneficial to ACM membership while keeping our style hip and fresh.
The question I'm here to answer at some length is, "What's really going on in ACM right now?" It's a question that I hear bouncing around the halls of DCL and floating around in SIG meetings. It's the question that drives us, the question that brings us to here:
Right now, most of the SIGs are strapping themselves in for the long haul on their Engineering Open House (EOH) projects. There are a lot of incredible projects planned for this Spring's EOH, and ACM is doing everything it can to get information about these projects out into the open for everyone.
How will we be spreading the word? Through the new Project Board the executive board is trying to obtain approval to use from the department. SIGs and independent projects affiliated with ACM will be able to post detailed information on their EOH and non-EOH projects here so that everyone will know where to find up to date information on projects happening in ACM without having to sift through piles and piles of old email or newsletters.
In other news, we've got a bunch of improvements around the office. In addition to the donation of Chainsaw, the massive QMS printer in the office, we've appointed an office manager, Chris Mullen, who will be making sure we keep our office in good order and helping to improve the work environment in there. We're also in the process of looking for the funding for a new, fully loaded Windows machine for the media lab (where SIGMusic's machine currently resides). On top of that, ACM@UIUC may have its own Sourceforge server in the near future - keep an eye out for that.
It's looking to be a great new year at ACM. Find yourself an excuse to swing on by and get involved. We don't bite. Often.
