From the Chair
By Vilas Dhar

For those of you new to the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), let me tell you a bit about what we do here.  ACM has an established laboratory (L510 DCL) and research presence with the CS Department, as well as strong connections to other campus engineering organizations.  We have worked hard to develop lasting relationships with a number of corporations, from Fortune 500 companies to local startups.  The ACM office (1225 DCL) is a great environment for hardware and software development, store of computer-related resources, and a place to just kick back and relax. From technical talks on kernel programming to paint-balling and movie nights, we try to do it all.
Personally speaking, I've met a number of students in my classes who've thoroughly impressed me, not by their knowledge and grasp of course material, but by their incessant curiosity and drive to explore.  I truly believe that ACM is one way to get the resources these individuals need to go out and to do great things.  We provide the knowledge base, the machines, and the administrative overhead, and simply say, "Go for the glory!"
I hope you get a chance to stop by the office and talk to some of our exec board members.  We've got a number of exciting things going on, including our new Powerlunch program, Project Board, Outreach, and many more. If you're interested in any of the EOH projects we've got going, or you want to see what else we've got going on in ACM, just drop me an email at dhar@uiuc.edu. I look forward to hearing from you!

     ACM and Independent
Project Board:

The ACM Project Board is up and ready! Situated next to the ACM office (1225 DCL!), this forum contains information about all current ACM research/design projects and provides information on how ACM members can get involved. The board also offers the opportunity for ACM members to independently enter a research/design project in EOH by submitting a simple form and having ACM handle the paperwork and EOH setup.

Upcoming Events:

Amazon.com InfoSession on February 6th, 7:00p in 1320 DCL:  Presenters from Amazon.com will be here to tell you about what they're working on, as well as look for prospective employees. Free food, and bring your resumes!

     SIGBiz Professionalism Enhancement Series:
          February 04-Resume Workshop
          February 11-Interview Workshop
          February 18-Job Search Workshop
