SIGMobile has been working on its project, EOH Laser Challenge. We wanted a project that would make kids excited about engineering and computers, and laser tag robots fit the bill. We used remote controlled cars, laser tag guns, HP Jornadas, servo controller boards, and all kinds of things we knew nothing about, and came up with a pretty cool project. Unfortunately, we had a few problems at the last minute, and weren't able to get it working in time for EOH. Nevertheless, everyone is psyched about having a great project next year. At the last meeting, we had some awesome ideas for projects:
Use the 802.11 access points to do triangulation. A lot of people in DCL use wireless devices connected to the network. Wouldn't it be scary if you could find out exactly where in the building someone else is?
Use image processing and triangulation to guide an autonomous robot though DCL. This will be quite a challenge during EOH, when there are lots of people walking around. In any case, we need your help to get these done! We are going to have a cool project for next year, but we need more people to get it done. No experience is necessary. Since most of our members live in FAR or PAR, we meet in a lounge in FAR on Saturday at 1:00. E-mail gokli@uiuc.edu if you're interested.
