The recently defunct SIG is back and with new style! So what is SIGMusic all about? We are about anything and everything from digital computer composition to live instrumental performance. It doesn't matter what kind of background, major, or experience you have. Why? Because we all have one thing in common: the love for music. "Sounds & Visions" is always an Engineering Open House favorite and an annual tradition that produced with SIGGraph. This is where members can compose music of their own that will accompany animated graphics made by SIGGraph members. S&V 2001 was entered into the "Just For Fun" category in EOH 2002 and took 1st place. Another favorite is the CD album compilation of SIGMusic pieces. These are especially a favorite at eCafe and go out quickly. Hopefully, with all these projects that have been done in the past, we can repeat them again this year. So if you even remotely like music or computers, come out to our meetings! All are welcome! Check out our website for the most recent regularly scheduled time and location, and we'll see you there!

Welcome to another great year of SIGBot. Our project this year? FoozBot, a foosball playing robot. Incorporating work in machine vision, artificial intelligence, and precision control, FoozBot will defeat human opponents. Although this may sound like something a graduate student might work on (and it is), even you, yes you, the uneducated robotic newbie can learn and contribute to this project. Just come to the SIGBot meetings, every Wednesday at 7 PM. Meet the rest of the crew at the ACM office, and we'll head up to our planning room. So far, we've discussed our options, and ordered our material (the first of which will be here in 3 weeks).

Are you hardcore? Have you ever wanted to see your name in a major Linux/xBSD distribution? Looking for a nice project to keep your interest long-term? CodeClub is geared towards the development and maintenance of distribution-quality software. We discuss portability techniques, software engineering methods, Open Source development, the GNU buildchain, autoconf, and anything else involved in producing high-quality free software. Currently development is being focused around the NJAMD malloc debugger, an EOH project from 2 years back that is now distributed in RedHat, Debian, Mandrake and other distributions. Plenty of other ACM projects are also looking for maintainers to take over development as well.

SIGArt is in the process of deciding between some great project ideas. Last Sunday we discussed an augmented reality system to aid in navigation for the blind using traditional range-finding techniques as well as computer vision. Also up for discussion is an idea for media classification that could help select movies based on past favorites and an idea for creating a VR-based heads up display. In addition to these projects we will be discussing a joint project based on automatic storyline generation at this Sunday's meeting.
