SIGMil started this semester very strong with lots of new members. We split our meetings into two: lecture only and project meeting. On Tuesdays at 7 p.m. we are going to conduct lectures in various topics ranging from common tools used in security audits to figuring out what piece of software is doing. We are going to have some exotic topics too, but more information will be available to people interested. Fridays we are meeting to work on our current projects.
We are also building security testing lab. The firewall/router box is up and running with the NSA Secure Linux kernel. We have two more machines running different OSes and will install third in the next meetings. If you are interested in messing around and breaking any OS or tool available and lack machines to experiment on, come on by.

This year MacWarriors has committed to creating a second version of our noted 3-dimensional file system browser, 3DOSX.  An article on 3DOSX was recently published in the National ACM Publication, ACM Crossroads, which has spawned more interest from outside of the University of Illinois. We intend to collaborate with SIGChi on the interface aspects of version two, as a part of this, we'll be adding support for the p5 powerglove.  3DOSX is written in Objective-C and OpenGL, both are easy to pick up and learn, especially Objective-C, which is much easier to learn and more elegant than C++.
Our weekly meetings of discussion about Mac related topics, rather than development of code, as well as helping people with their Mac-related problems etc. Feel free to drop by.

SIGMobile is the ACM Special Interest Group in Mobile Computing. We have done projects with everything from GameBoys to remote controlled cars to handheld computing. Currently we are starting two short-term projects to write some code for the CS department. Our programs will be used every day for the mailroom and biannually for the building inventory. Our real project for this year's Engineering Open House (EOH) will involve triangulation over the wireless 802.11b network in DCL. We want to track people without them even knowing. If you think this sounds interesting, but you're thinking, "I just don't know enough to really help out," don't hesitate to sign up. We have quite a few inexperienced members this year, and all of them will be making a big contribution to the project. So, get involved on campus. Do something hands-on. Have a real learning experience. Join SIGMobile.

SIGUnix is just starting a new year with new Chairs. We have been talking about possible EOH projects, but the discussion is still open for new ideas. Bring your cool ideas for stuff to do with Unix to the coming meetings. We've also been talking about doing Unix/Linux tutorials, so we're open to topic suggestions and people who would like to present. SIGUnix is a group for bringing together the Unix community on campus and exploring Unix technology.
