It's been a busy month for SIGArch. We had a huge turnout at our PCB workshop, where many people built working Breakout boards. New members learned about basic circuit prototyping and built and tested FM transmitter / receiver pairs to send and receive a binary count. And last week, we had the first of our PIC microcontroller architecture and programming tutorial sessions. Next month, we'll be delving more into PIC programming and PC interfacing, beginning plans for EOH, and possibly hosting an FPGA workshop. SIGArch has regular meetings at 7:00 PM on Thursdays in L510 DCL, Newcomers are always welcome!

SigBiz is focused on exploring and developing business applications for the latest in computing technology. We are currently working on a project that seeks to apply RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags developed by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications(NCSA) in different settings. We are brain-storming and meeting with RFID developers for building a generic software framework for using the RFID tags. We are also looking for new and enthusiastic members from various backgrounds including computer science, MIS, business, etc. At SigBiz what you can do is only limited by your imagination.

We are developing a system that converts photographs to (shaded) line drawings by making use of increasingly available Tablet PC and Wacom technology. It then teaches a user how to draw this photo by showing the proper lines and curves to trace, in order, piece-by-piece.

SIGBot is continuing work on their foozball-plauying robot. The mechanical group is creating actual cost designs for two alternative methods of redesigning the table, the software group is in the process of setting up their new computer and trying to get the camera running. The electrical group is getting the logic circuits ready to change to Manufactured H-Bridges.
