Special Interest Group for UNIX

by Jess Olson

For this year's EOH, SigUnix will implement an X-window based interface system to various UNIX utilities. Our goal is to create an easy-to-use X interface for common UNIX utilities. Some of the utilities we will be improving are chmod, the quota manager, and possibly procmail.

The people in SigUnix work for a better understanding of UNIX operating system. The best way to learn about our newest projects is in our newsgroup, uiuc.org.acm.sigunix, or at our web page at http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/sigunix/, which will be updated soon after announcements on the newsgroup.

ACM's Cool UNIX Tricks Workshop was attended by many members of SigUnix, and was greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Many thanks from SigUnix and all of the UNIX enthusiasts around campus go out to Joe Gross, Jason Lindquist, and Mark Roth.

SigUnix is always willing to work on interesting UNIX-related projects. If you have an idea for a project, come to our meetings at 9:00 PM on Tuesday nights in 1102 DCL.
