Special Interest Group for UNIX

by Jesse Olson

SigUNIX is actively pursuing UNIX development throughout the computing world on campus. SigUNIX's plans for EOH are not yet formed, but they will be discussed at an upcoming meeting, which may have happened by the time this is printed. The ACM's Cool UNIX tricks workshop, being held on February 6th at 7pm in 1310 DCL, has been received well by SigUNIX devotees. This workshop should provide a good insight into UNIX, and perhaps get SigUNIX some more members.

The Engineering Open House is coming up in about 5 weeks and SigUNIX will provide some contribution to this event. There are suggestions being made into definite plans. There is still time to add suggestions or influences to SigUNIX's projects should anybody have ideas/goals/random hallucinations that would make cool UNIX projects.

In one of our latest meetings, the idea of an X window interface for the chmod command has been proposed. Some people in SigUNIX are quite impressed with this idea and will work on it at the upcoming meeting. For those interested in SigUNIX, our meetings are in DCL at 8 pm on Wednesday, and meet at the ACM office.
