SigSoft is the Special Interest Group dedicated to Software Development. We program primarily in C and C++, on several different platforms, including the IBM family, Macintosh, and Unix running X Windows. Current projects include games and utilities, and we are always open to new project ideas.
During Engineering Open House you'll find us in the Digital Computer Lab, with the rest of the ACM SIGs. Our projects include: Arena, a Macintosh, networked car battle game written in C. The head of the Arena project is Chuck Remes (cremes@cs.uiuc.edu). Morpheus is our X Window System image morpher, written in C++ and running on our IBM RS/6000. Chris Trimble (chris1@uiuc.edu) leads this group of late-night programmers. Andrew Dalke (dalke@uiuc.edu) heads the Oscope project, a computer oscilloscope simulator intended to introduce Physics 107 students to analyzing RC, RL, and RLC circuits with an oscilloscope. On completion, the program will be installed on IBM computers in the Physics lab.
In addition to continuing work on these projects, we have some fun, post-EOH project ideas for anyone interested in joining SigSoft. We meet every Wednesday night, at 6pm, in 1102 DCL. If you are looking for programming experience, enjoy challenging yourself, or are just a hacker looking for something to do, stop in or drop me a line at sigsoft@uiuc.edu.
