Using Apple's Address Book and Mail.app
with the University of Illinois LDAP server

Adding UIUC's LDAP Server to your Address Book will allow you to get phone and email information on people in the UIUC phonebook right from your computer's Address Book. The big advantage to this is that adding UIUC's LDAP support to the address book is that it will be included when Mail makes address suggestions:

Adding UIUC to the Address Book:

1) Open Address Book (Located in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder of your hard drive). 2) Choose Preferences from the Address Book menu. First click [ 2 ] LDAP then [ 1 ] the "+" button to add a new Directory server.

LDAP 1

3) The following dialog will appear. Fill in the information as shown below:
Name: UIUC LDAP
Server: ldap.uiuc.edu
Search Base: dc=uiuc,dc=edu

LDAP 2

4) Click Save and you're done. There will now exist a directory entry in your address book. You can search through the UIUC address book as well as drag and drop Address Book Cards in to your personal address book.

Adding UIUC to Mail (if you don't have OS X Tiger):

1) Open Mail (Located in the Applications folder of your hard drive). 2) Choose Preferences from the Mail menu. First click Composing [1] then click Configure LDAP [2] to configure Directory servers.

LDAP 3

3) Click on the "+" button to add a new LDAP server.

LDAP 4

4) The following dialog will appear . Fill in the information as shown below:
Name: UIUC LDAP
