Meeting Notes for 10/18/2005
- We demoed SubEthaEdit again, illustrating different behaviors for group members not in attendance from the preceding week.
- Tack ran through a paper: Awareness and Coordination in Shared Workspaces
- Treated the idea of "awareness" as the key motivation behind the design of a collaborative editor
- A study of ShrEdit was described loosely (detailed additionally in a separate paper)
- Roles in the editing environment were fluid; moving from editing to watching to creating content
- According to studies described in the paper, many features like "follow" tend to be ignored
- The paper cited audio communication as an effective method to establish awareness.
- The Awareness paper led to several additional research leads. Several volunteered to do research on each of these.
