Help File for the ACM Electronic Sign

This is the file that is sent back to you when you write to acmsign@uiuc.edu with a subject of "help":

Hello! This is the ACM sign helpfile. The ACM sign is located in the Digital Computer Laboratory, in the display- case outside of the ACM office. It displays all messages that are sent to it with the subject of "display". It currently does not do any censoring or restricting of messages in any way.

The ACM sign is currently capable of displaying text messages. The messages are scrolled across the sign repeatedly until the que fills and it is forced to nuke the first message it was sent.

What you can do:

You can finger the sign at acmsign@cs.uiuc.edu . Fingering the sign will reveal a list of the messages that the sign plans to display (what's in it's que) along with the date and time stamp of the last time it ran through the display que (this is important to determine if the sign is operational.)

You can mail the sign with the subject of "help" to get this help file.

You can mail the sign with the subject of "about" to get more information on the history and design of the sign.

You can mail the sign with the subject of "plan" to get the results of a "finger" of the sign mailed to you.

You can mail the sign with the subject of "display" to mail a message to be added to the que and displayed by the sign. The body of your message will be displayed by the sign. Special commands are _I to set inverse mode (Everything after this command will be inverted on the sign), and _N to set the display back to normal.

Have fun with the sign! We know we have!
