Netrunner
Netrunner is to Wide-Area Networks (WANs) what an Ethernet card is to
Local-Area Networks (LANs). Designed as part of the
CamBot project, Netrunner provides a hardware-level TCP/IP protocol
stack, packaged behind an ISA-standard interface. Plans for the
1995/1996 schoolyear are to construct Netrunner (with CamBot hooks) as an
"Internet Card" with built-in IP, ARP, ICMP, IGMP, UDP layers. It will
be demonstrated at EOH '96, hopefully with Linux or Wat-TCP drivers and a
suitable benchmark to demonstrate efficiency/speed increases.
For details on Netrunner, see the CamBot pages,
where Netrunner is referred to as the Network Interface Unit.
