The University of Illinois and the Special Interest Group for Computer Architecture would like

to introduce our latest project : MPEG-MAN(TM)

The purpose of the MPEG-MAN was to bring together several leading-edge technologies.

Including:

Mpeg Layer 3 Encoding

Field Programmable Logic Arrays

High Performance Embedded Microprocessors

as well as the old favorite 'blinking lights' technology.

The idea is to build a portable Mpeg Layer 3 Player that is capable of

being interfaced with a PC through a standard Parallel or possibly used directly

to read from CDs.

If you have questions or suggestions please send email or

check out our newsgroup (uiuc domain only).

Here we will Post recent advancements/announcements in our quest.

The Hardware that we are using is:

SA-110 development board,

FPGA board,

LED array, Interface Display,

as well as a sound board for the final output.

The software packages that we are using to build the prototype include:

the SA-110 Software Development Kit,

Mentor Graphics System Architect, and the FPGA system synthesis kit.

Finally we will need an operating system running on the StrongARM.

There are several choices which we are considering:
