SigDave has built its first hovercraft. I think it's fair to say it was a success. We did have a few problems though. Among them:
- Noise. Our hovercraft makes a loud, horrible noise. We believe this is due to the air moving past the bottom of the inflatable skirt. Possible solutions are to make the skirt tougher, make sure it has more pressure, or lessen the amount of slack in the skirt before it is inflated.
- Plastic ripped around the edge of the wood. Possible solutions are to wrap the edge of the wood with some kind of rubber or soft material.
- Flexing of the wooden platform. This may not turn out to be a big problem, but it should be noted. We could possibly use 1/4" plywood instead of...whatever that thin board was.
Thanks to everyone who helped, it was a lot of fun. Eventually we'll build multiple hovercraft "pods" like this one and join them together. EOH is going to rock.
