FAQ on Joining SigVR
Why would someone want to join SigVR?
- If you have an interest in virtual realtity,
and want to work on cool projects with virtual reality, then SigVR is
for you.
What are the requirements for joining SigVR?
- An interest in virtual reality. That is it. While knowlege
of graphics programing, or programming in general can be helpful, everthing
that we do can be done by anyone with an interest in virtual reality.
Does someone need to be a member of ACM to join SigVR?
- No, while we do encourage our members to be a member of
ACM@UIUC, because it has several other
benefits, it is not required for membership in SigVR.
Are there SigVR chapters outside of UIUC?
- No, if you are interested in virtual reality in an area outside
of the Champaign-Urbana area, we recommend that you join
Siggraph, the special interest group in computer graphics which has
chapters all over the world, and is a special interest group in
ACM International, our parent organization.
Does a member have to be a student at UIUC?
- No, like I said before all that is required is an interest in virtual reality.
However, it does help if you are in the Champaign-Urbana area. If you are
not in this area, you can still be a member.
How does someone join SigVR?
- There are two ways to join SigVR. E-mail
sigvr@uiuc.edu to be put on the mailing list, or come to one of our meetings at
1225 DCL (Digital Computer Lab) on 1304 W. Springfield at the University of Illinois.
The time is every Monday at 7:00 PM, except when classes are not in session and
during the summer.
