Jared is an entrepreneur at heart running a small business called Phunctional Design, which helps other small businesses stand out from their competition. Phunctional Design is a member of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce, while Jared assists on the marketing committee of the chamber’s Young Professionals of Naperville (YPN) committee.

Active roles in ACM include the ACM Conference Committee and ACM Corporate Committee. When ACM's Chairman Anthony Philipp offered the idea of starting up SIG BIZ, Jared came in and changed virtually everything about it, realizing that radical change was necessary for the successful growth and development of the organization in the long term.

Jared pursued Aleksandr Shulman about programming interests for a project, which is where the two UIUC sophomores decided to head up the efforts to start UBD. Today the two young entrepreneurs are pulling students into more active and competitive roles, as opposed to the passive setting of classroom learning.
